I figured the rest of you would get a kick out of this one.
I have a buddy who is a logger, and his truck broke a rocker arm(C-15)
It ran well enough to drive on flat ground, but there is one steep hill through town getting back to my house, which he didn't want to drive up, being affraid to put any load on the motor.
Obviosly we unhooked the trailer to lessan the load(64K total empty), but just the truck was 46K.
I put the truck in 4low, 1rst gear, and it just barely got it rolling on the semi snow covered parking lot. Once on the road, I got it into 3rd, and held 1/3 to 1/2 throttle, 3000rpms the whole way up. pyro at 800 most of the way, except for when the truck would hit a snow patch, spin and then lug, it would climb to 1200. At the top of the hill when it tapped off, and grabbed 4rth and it seemed to continue to gain speed, but the pyro climbed also. speed was around 20-24mph all the way up(rpm limited) Which is FASTER than the truck climbs it under its own power, loaded to around 180K, with a 650hp cat.
I must say, I was mighty proud of the old girl..

should hook up a dodge and a chevy to that for a pull off. My bet would be the cummins outpulls the ford and the duramax gets dragged down the hill backwards or shatters its ifs all over the place...
Those guys that use diesel trucks for hot loads or whatever you call it regularly haul 35k or so lbs. _________________ "It isnt broke until you cant fix it anymore"

yeah, hot shot guys haul in the 35k range alot.
My trucks just a 88' F-350, 7.3 hand shaker. Only real mods are a 3" straight pipe, and the pump is turned up a little bit. No turbo..
I'm fully confident that any cummis, powerstroke, or D-max would drag it backwards.. lol
Diff are open as well, allthough that shoudl change soon, as I have a lockright comming for the rear soon. |
